Long-distance relationships are tough. If you are attempting to navigate a long-distance relationship right now, this post is for you.
It’s weird to think that this time last year I was waiting for my finance to propose. He was still living in Kansas City, and I was in St. Louis. We would alternate weekends visiting each other, and willingly driving 3.5 hours each way.
The last part is what amazes me the most. I think that I must have really liked him in order to be willing to drive when I absolutely hate driving.
While I knew I liked my now finance, at the time he was only a boyfriend who lived almost an entire state away. I ached for a relationship with someone in the same city and wondered if the long-distance would ever end.
It felt like there were so many roadblocks in our way to having a relationship in the same city. He would have to find a new job, I would need to move out of my mother’s house (mostly because she was selling it), and would need to commit to not only seeing my boyfriend on a daily basis but potentially commit to a lifetime with him as well. I might have jumped to a few of these assumptions on my own, but when you ask someone to change their jobs and reroute their lives for you, you want to be pretty sure that you are in for the commitment and change as well.
I did a few things to calm my nerves and anxiety during this time that I think made a world of difference.
After watching Cheer on Netflix, I have found myself dancing and “cheering” way too often during my workouts. This workout mat, is perfect for dancing workouts.
First, I focused on my physical health by making sure I devoted time to caring for my physical health.
Whether it was yoga, cycling, or Zumba, I took time each day to get a workout in and improve my physical fitness. I’m a big fan of youtube workout videos and supplement them with walking, cycling, and running to help create a full workout.
My fiancé loves this ab roller, and uses it as part of his daily exercise routine.
I also know the importance of focusing on mental health. When I was going through the process of purchasing a house last year, I utilized the CALM app to complete daily meditation videos. I’ve always been a big fan of yoga, utilizing my peloton for classes, but wanted to work something into my day that wasn’t necessarily driven by exercise. This was also important since I contracted mono in the middle of the house search process as well, so not only my mind, but my body was also under stress. I only needed a few key items to set up an at-home relaxation space.
This sweatshirt is the epitome of everything I feel (and have long stressed) about mental health.
This chair will save your back and your mind during meditation sessions.
Even when life got stressful with the engagement and purchasing a house, focusing on my mental and physical health helped me stay grounded in what truly matters in life. If you’re looking for stress relief from a big life event, try out the above items, and let me know how they work for you!Ti
Till next time.
