We all know that I am a huge fan of home decor. This blog along is evidence enough of my desire to stay up-to-date on the latest home trends. Between writing these posts, Pinterest, and looking at Zillow approximately 40 times a day, I’ve developed a list of 5 things I would love to renovate in my home.
Now, the likelihood of me actually doing any of these things is slim given the fact that I only bought my house a year ago, and my budget for any renovations, or knowledge on how to complete them is minimal at best. Yet, I still find myself daydreaming about things I would do if I knew how, and the projects I would undertake as if I was Joanna or Chip Gaines.
Although most of these are small, I see them making a big difference in the feel and aesthetic of my home. Let me know what home projects you would complete if you had the time/budget/ or skills!
- Painting my fireplace white: My brother and sister-in-law did this to the fireplace in their home, and it brightened up the space while creating a french-country chic feel. My fireplace’s room only has one window and can get dark at times. I think painting the dark brick white would help lighten the space while still sticking to my french country chic feel.
- Replacing the kitchen counters: So the kitchen counters only bug me a little bit. They aren’t great by any means- they are made of that peel and stick vinyl on composite wood, but the vinyl is a white and gray marble color. Ideally, I’d like real granite or something that at least feels like it, but I struggle with putting it in given the fact that my kitchen is rather small and I worry it won’t hold enough value to make it worth the money.
- Replacing the kitchen sink: This is something that not only do I think we should do but something I hope to be able to do myself. Currently, we have a very basic two-part metal sink. There is nothing fancy about it, and it reminds me of the kind that I had in college. I don’t even like the feel of it. This is also something that I think could actually happen given the fact that my fiance also isn’t a fan.
- Expanding the master bath: This one is a reach that will probably never happen, but a girl can dream right?
- Building a pergola: When we were touring houses last year in search of ours, one of the first houses we saw, and one of my favorites to this day, had a pergola. It was brown, wooden, and provided so much shade that I had wanted one ever since. Maybe we could build it ourselves?
- Adding onto the patio: Our patio and steep deck stairs are both so small! I’d love to expand them both, but again probably not going to happen given the extent of the project.
- Adding windows to rooms: For some reason, no room in this house has more than one window. Granted it is not a big house, but I hate that the builder didn’t think to add more windows.
Overall, I love my house. It is definitely small but it’s perfect for a small family like ours. We are lucky in that it was all renovated by the man who owned it before us. For the most part, everything looks new and shiny. Only time will tell if we end up doing any renovations on the home, but luckily they aren’t needed, and maybe, just maybe, I can restrain myself from spending the money to do them!
Till next time!
