My wedding is in about 3 months!
I am equally parts excited and nervous that this date is approaching so soon. Part of me is ready to be married and done with all the planning, and the other half of me wishes we had 6 more months to feel fully ready.
What worries me the most is that I want to feel like my healthiest, best self on the day of my wedding. This is a complicated ask being that the stress of wedding planning has meant a year filled with illness and stress.
First, last April, shortly after I got engaged, I became the sickest I have ever been with a bout of Mono. I am still not sure where I got this illness or why, but I know that it knocked me down hard. Fighting mono at 31 was something I hadn’t anticipated having to experience.
Then, this year, after months of being vigilant and wearing my mask consistently, I finally got COVID. It found me in the beginning of January and lingered in my body till at least February.
This meant that I was off my usual workout routine, and eating habits. In April, I only wanted to eat things that brought me comfort, and in January, I only wanted to eat things that had a strong flavor, neither of which were leaders in the healthy eating category.
Now that the date is getting closer and closer, I have tried to up my workout game and clean up my diet.
Since I’m still on a time crunch, I’ve tried a new approach to fitness which is different than the way I’ve worked out in the past. Right now I don’t have the time to do this, so instead, I’ve been trying to move as much as possible during my regular day.
This means taking the stairs whenever possible, walking the long way to get to a certain room, and parking as far away from my destination as possible. Together, all of these things have helped me reach my daily step goal of 8000-10,000 steps.
Although I still try to work a traditional workout into my day, implementing more movement into my regular day has been extremely helpful in bettering my mindset in addition to my physical health.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress in the months ahead, but I’m hoping these small changes to my daily exercise are here to stay!
