When it comes to holiday decorations, I have a tendency to never do the same thing twice – there are simply too many holiday decorating ideas to try! I am a huge fan of Christmas and am notorious for decorating every square inch of the house with Christmas decor. My coffee table decor probably goes through 3 variations before I land on one to keep out for the holiday season.
I strive to utilize the array of hand-me-down materials I have been gifted over the years while infusing my decorations with a few new choice items. I’ll show you how to mix the new with the old in a way that will have even Santa Claus fooled!
I have come across a few favorites that I can’t wait to share with you. I’ve linked my favorite budget-friendly options for those of us trying to save on our constant decorating….. cough, cough, me. Whether you’re into white lights, candles, or coffee table books, this post will give you an idea of how you can decorate your coffee table for the holidays.
This post is all about coffee table decor for the holidays.
The Best Holiday Coffee Table Decor
1. Ornaments in a Jar
Recreate this coffee table look:
My favorite thing about the holidays is that there are so many choices when it comes to coffee table decorative accents. You can go classic and stick with the basics of silver, white, and gold ornaments, or you can jazz things up with an array of colored ornaments.
I love to use a glass jar like the one above to showcase the family ornaments that I have collected over the years. Sometimes these are so flimsy, they aren’t the best to hang on the tree, but when laid (gently) in these jars they make the perfect coffee table centerpiece.
If you prefer a more modern look, these jars are the perfect spot to showcase new matching ornaments in a single color. You can choose the ornaments to match your other Christmas decor for a cohesive look!
2. Coffee Table Decorative Tray
Recreate this coffee table look:
I love a good wicker basket more than anything when it comes to decorations. Thankfully this brown woven one has the versatility to work with holiday decor and summer pieces. If you find that it doesn’t fit with your coffee table decor ideas for other seasons, it is the perfect shape to be placed in a bathroom to keep extra supplies handy as well, or in a kitchen for towels and napkins.
Admittedly, this candle is a little different than the one in the photo, but I couldn’t help myself when I saw that it was ‘Christmas’ scented. Imagine waking up on a cold December morning to light this candle and have your entire house smelling like the scents of the season. The gentle flicker of the flame next to this classic wood-made Santa is the stuff of Christmas movie dreams!
3. Christmas Coffee Table Books
recreate this coffee table look:
This little rocking horse stole my heart from the moment I saw it! It is the perfect tabletop size to be placed on the Christmas table and easily reused on a side table throughout the year. Maybe it is the color, but it reminds me of something you would see in Nantucket, or even England, which is why I would pair it with the Christmas in Nantucket coffee table book.
Christmas in Nantucket seems about as idyllic as it gets when it comes to coffee table decor. If you’re looking to add a whimsical element to your coffee table decor, this is the book for you. I’ve never been to Nantucket, but if it is anything like the photos in this book make it out to be, then I can’t imagine a more ideal place to visit during the holiday season!
I just love how the green and wood accents on these miniature tabletop threes would balance the other items in this combo. Things like these are the perfect reusable element year after year that although small, become part of our holiday memories. The combination of all three would work together so well!
4. Create a Magical Scene
Recreate this coffee table look:
The options are endless with this one! You are the creator of the perfect magical scene for you and your family this holiday season. One thing I love to do for these types of scenes is to choose a color scheme and run with it. For this one, I focused on red and green….. radical I know!
I found this adorable vintage little red truck with Christmas trees in the back and paired it with this pre-lit Christmas tree. It brings in aspects of coffee table farmhouse decor if you are looking for a more rustic feel as well! The reviews for this truck raved about its durability and versatility all season. One reviewer even remarked that she had originally purchased it for a friend, and had to buy one for herself after seeing how cute it was!
It is the perfect size for tabletop placement, and even allows the trees in back to be removed if you prefer to simply drape the lights across the truck bed instead. I’m honestly not quite sure what we did as a society before small battery-operated string lights were around? Were we all just plugging in actual lights indoors and hoping for the best? That’s a scary thought. Thankfully, we now have these battery-operated ones to add an extra touch of magic to your coffee table decor.
5. Table Top Christmas Card Display
recreate this look:
When you stop to think about the amount of time and money most people spend on getting ready to take Christmas photos, shooting the images, choosing the outfits, paying for the photographer, it is tragic that we usually look at them once and throw them away. This is the perfect solution for you to save them for years to come!
At the very least, you will want to keep these photos for the Christmas season. By making a coffee table centerpiece Christmas -card keepsake, like the one above, the cards can be cherished and admired all season. This coffee table decoration is probably one of the easiest and cheapest (thank goodness) to make. All you need is a three-hole puncher, a metal ring clasp, and bows to dress it all up! If you make one of these each year, it is so much fun to look back on the photos and see how your loved ones have changed as time has gone on.
6. Use Presents as a Focal Piece
recreate this look:
So as I see it, there are two ways to go about re-creating the above look. 1. You could be incredibly talented and know how to wrap up your gifts in a way that looks as good as the fake ones above, or you can simply use one of the fake ones beneath the photo and save yourself the trouble of attempting to be a professional wrapper :). I’d obviously choose the latter.
Either way you go, nothing screams Christmas more than a collection of exceptionally well-wrapped gifts sitting in the center of a coffee table. It is classical and whimsical all in one and can be made with objects lying around the house.
Stack your presents on top of a pile of coffee table books, and you are good to go for the holiday season!
